DESIGN OF ONE WAY SLAB |Excel Template|

Design

Civil is a branch where Analysis and Design, are the key aspects. Every structure needs to be analyzed and design, before it is truly constructed on site. There are numerous factors to be considered for the stability of the structure as we approach towards design. Hence, accurate design is of extreme importance which significantly affects the safety and serviceability of the structure.

The R.C.C structure(Building) comprises of various structural elements , such as Slab, beam, column, footing lintels etc. All of these elements can further be classified according to these use, construction, size etc.

In this post, I would like to begin with slab,as designing always starts form top to bottom.

Slabs:
The slabs can of many types. One very common type is , slab is One Way Slab.

The slab is usually said to as an one way when the main steel is spanning in only one direction.
Theoretically, it depends up on the aspect ratio (Ly/Lx), But practically the design is based on the experience and the position of the beam and columns supporting the slab so as to achieve economy in the construction. As per the Pune University, the design of One way slab has also been included in the curriculum.
There are many software's available in market for the design and analysis, but as far as academics is concerned EXCEL is the best tool to get your values checked. Furthermore, you can also do your slight modification as per the situation mentioned in the questions. One such template of one way slab  is attached in this post and many are on the way.

Hope you like the post.

In Case if one wishes to download the file:
Please note,

    • The design strictly follows the procedure of the IS 456:2000,and the conditions have been considered as moderate.
    • The Sheet 1 demands the given data & also shows the the conclusion (The Main Steel Requirement for the given conditions)However the MODIFICATION factor should be entered manually by use of graph provided in the sheet.
    • The Sheet 2 Shows the detailed calculations so that one can relate them to the manually done.
    • The file is only for the sake of assistance. There might be difference between the actual design and the design using this excel file
